NGC 2264. The Christmas Tree Cluster
and The Cone Nebula
Open cluster and emission nebula in Monoceros

The Christsmas Tree cluster and the cone nebula were discovered by William Herschel in 1784 and 1785. The nebula is a part of a great nebular complex that is a very active area of star formation. In the picture, the Fox Fur nebula can also be distinguished.

The cluster has an apparent magnitude of
3,9, and both are 2500 light years away from Earth.
