Spiral galaxy in Cepheus

NGC6949 is a face on spiral galaxy located at the boundary of Cepheus and Cygnus constellations es una galaxia espiral que se ubica en el límite entre las constelaciones de Cepheus  y Cygnus. It was discovered by Herschel in 1798.

The galaxy is heavily obscured by interestellar matter as it lies quite close to the galactic plane of the Milky Way. Ten supernovae have been observed in this galaxy , hence its name: The fireworks galaxy.


Its distance from Earth is about 22.000.000 light years and its visual magnitude is  9,6
